QC Qualcomm The U.S. government is cracking down on China’s Huawei Technologies for allegedly violating trade sanctions, and Qualcomm could feel the pain.

QC Qualcomm The U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday it had added Huawei to a list of companies that American firms cannot do business with without a special license. The move effectively bars Huawei from buying American-made parts and components to make its products.

Qualcomm is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of chips for smartphones and other mobile devices. It also happens to be one of Huawei’s biggest suppliers. In fact, Qualcomm derived about 10 percent of its revenue from Huawei last year, according to analysts at Susquehanna Financial Group.

QC Qualcomm The U.S. government is ratcheting up its investigation into Qualcomm’s business practices, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

QC Qualcomm The WSJ says that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is looking into whether Qualcomm violated antitrust laws by using its dominance in the smartphone market to charge unfair prices for its chips. The agency has also sent subpoenas to Apple, Samsung, and Intel as part of the probe.

US chipmaker Qualcomm has been hit with a record $773m (£614m) fine by South Korea’s antitrust regulator.

The Korean Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) said Qualcomm had abused its “dominant” position in the market for mobile chips.

The regulator said Qualcomm had forced phone makers to sign “unfair” contracts and paid them to use only its chips.

The Qualcomm Crackdown is an event that occurred in early 2020 in which the United States authorities took action against the Chinese tech giant Qualcomm.

The action consisted of a fine of $1.03 billion, as well as an injunction that banned Qualcomm from selling certain chipsets in the US.

This event caused a major sell-off in the stock market, and also resulted in the resignation of Qualcomm’s CEO, Paul Jacobs.

The U.S. government is reportedly preparing to take legal action against Qualcomm over allegations that the company has been using its dominance in the smartphone chip market to stifle competition.

The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, said Wednesday that the Federal Trade Commission is finalizing an antitrust lawsuit against Qualcomm that could be filed as soon as this week. The suit would allege that Qualcomm has used its position as a leading supplier of smartphone chips to force customers to agree to unfair terms, the Journal said.

Qualcomm declined to comment on the report. The FTC also declined to comment.

QC Qualcomm The United States is investigating whether Chinese tech giant Huawei violated U.S. sanctions against Iran, people familiar with the matter said, adding to the Trump administration’s scrutiny of the company.

The inquiry is at an early stage and may not lead to any charges, the sources cautioned. A Huawei spokesman declined to comment on “speculation about the subject of any possible investigation”.
